The Black Shark
KA-50 (and KA-52 Alligator 2 seater version) The KA-50, better known as the “Black Shark” from the role it played in the film of the same name. Measuring up with a Length of 16m and a Rotor Diameter of 14.5m it is only a fraction smaller than the Apache. However it weighs in all up at a whopping 9,800kg (over 2,000kg heavier) The difference being comprised of the 30 mm Shipunov 2A42 cannon (carrying 460 rounds of mixed Anti Personnel and High Explosive-Fragmentation) mounted alongside the Starboard edge of the fuselage. A variety of weapons can be carried on the four under wing mounts, these can comprise of, 23mm gun pods, each carrying 240 rounds of armour piercing amunition. 12 Vikhr Anti-Tank missiles. Or, the Vympel Air to Air missiles. For ground attack roles it can be loaded with S8 rockets, or Kh25 Laser guided air to ground missiles. Like the Apache it has been designed to be operational in all theatres of war and even has the capability to run for 30 minutes without oil in the engines. One of the advantages of the Contra-rotating design is the ability to turn on a flat plane at any speed, making it extremely dangerous to pursuing craft, however it lacks the ability to sneak up on targets owing to the fact that it has no mast mounted radar. Having said that, it is still quite an impressive machine with a top speed of 315km and a range of 545km and at only $15,000,000 each is very reasonably priced. You don’t have to pay that much to get your hands on one. Instead check out the link to the Syma S018 Aurora Airwolf 3Channel RC Helicopter that is on the indoor heli-store page. You could always paint the fuselage to look like the “Black Shark” |
